This latest verson is terrific. Is it possible to include QT and QTVR movies? Would be great.

Suggest having an option to change the font size for captions. That is probably the most important text. Thanks!

Also, the ability to NOT have a caption, if one desires.

Both the subdued and vivid Spotlight Intro Images appears to be too large for this version. Is that intentional, shows the incompatibility of WGW themes, or testing the waters? The swf file overlaps the banner. The banner is somewhat transparent so the intro shows through there. On the previous release this was not the case. I personally prefer the more subtle colors. These are definitely among my favorites. The other thing is I can find no section under customization that addresses the header and it’s properties ( color or text and text properties )..

    Shozam! Team Says:
    February 26th, 2007 at 6:52 pm

Paula, you can change global text properties (which affects the captions as well) in Ste 4 –> Customize Tab –> Global Defaults –> Global DefaultsBodyText –> FontSize (default is 10)

    Shozam! Team Says:
    February 26th, 2007 at 7:06 pm

Theodore, are you talking about size difference between Shozam! themes and WGW themes? The two are not compatible; Shozam! theme structure and design has been rebuilt from scratch and Shozam! themes are not meant to be used in WGW.

Header properties - are you talking about the custom header sample code provided in the help files? The sample code has color assignments hard-wired in the code itself (it is not controlled by the theme editor). Direct HTML input is meant for Web designers or users with HTML experience which want to control what/how things display by entering their own HTML code. This can be very powerful and extend the capability of the program but unleashing this power comes with a risk… If the HTML is not valid, things will break down… This feature is not meant for the casual user.

We do plan to provide sample code that enthusiasts can experiment with but we will not provide support for any unexpected results if users enter their own HTML.

Would it be possible to be able to separately choose the background within the album and the background outside the album? It would make for a much better presentation. The way it is, especially on large high resolution screens (i.e. 1080×1024), it appears as if the album background just flows across the album border.

Are things far along enough that I can spend considerable time customizing the Blackout theme and be sure I will be able to use it in the final Sozam version? Do you have a tentative time table for the final version?

    Theodore K. Diebold Says:
    February 27th, 2007 at 9:22 am

I was aware that the Spotlight theme from wgw was not compatable. My question was based on the Redesigned version. The banner is transparent and the flash shows through. I was able to bring in anothe banner which fixed the view. It did come from another theme though. I have irt posted on my web site under the buttom “this page under construction” Like Howard I have a favorite and when you posted the themes I was excited and I’m hoping this is one that come throuhg into production release.

I noticed that that when I add photos to a gallery that already had protected/copyrighted markings on them, they get another when I add photos to the gallery and mark them with the copyright symbol. There are now two symbols of different sizes. I tried turning off the protection and that only works with the newly added photos. The original retain the old symbol. On release 2.0.1.0 resolved issue 15 you state that “watermark gets applied to “original” size image; watermark displays at fixed size (no longer scales with the image). Do I have to remove all images when modifying an album and then reload all photos fresh to clear the watermark?

    Shozam! Team Says:
    March 1st, 2007 at 2:41 pm

Ted, I could not replicate the Spotlight theme quirks I’ve seen on your “under construction” album. Please try it on a FRESH album.

Same thing with watermarks, they work differently now so it is best to start with a fresh gallery in order to have that functionality work as we intended it.

    IMPORTANT! NOTE TO ALL USERS:
You may experience some legacy bugs if you keep using galleries that were originally created with older versions of the Beta. if so, you will need to build the gallery from scratch with the newest Beta version. Sorry, for the inconvenience.

    Shozam! Team Says:
    March 1st, 2007 at 2:44 pm

Paula, you could use the generic HTML field to format captions how you please. However, this would require you to enter it as HTML code… Currently the program uses caption text formatted as the rest of the text, without a way to format captions separately. We may add more fine-grain control in the future.

    Theodore K. Diebold Says:
    March 2nd, 2007 at 11:32 am

I followed your advice and completely recreated a new gallery with all new photo sets and the copyright is fixed. However now I discouver that I’m having rand problems with the crop function of the intro. I created several different galleries with different themes and stil have croping issue on the intro only. Sometimes it is the bottom two images, sometime bottom three and sometimes all. I know you are close to the next drop so I’ll wait for that before continuing

I’ve used this beta the first time today and made a gallery with around 180+ photos in it here: http://www.fortgaines.com/gallery-2006-caf.html

The only thing I don’t care for is the slideshow popping up in a new window. Can it stay in the i-frame?

I was very impressed with all the new functions.

Is it possible to offer multiple items from the same photo in the shopping cart? Can the prices and items be consistent from photo to photo within the gallery? How can I offer packages made up of different photos?

Hi Shozam team - really looking forward to the final release. I am trying to convert existing web gallery wizard pro albums to shozam. Smaller simple albums convert sucessfully but my large gallery with 15 albums is not accepted. An error appears saying “This folder does not contain a valid Shozam project file. Please eselect another folder”.

As far as I can tell I have the same base files in the gallery.

Will I have to rebuild from scratch?

    All the best

Greg, please select a new name (or location) for your gallery and generate all gallery files. Then try to open that gallery into Shozam!. If this doesn’t work, please also verify you are using the latest version of WGW: http://www.webgallerywizard.com/Support/Version-history.htm

    Shozam! Team Says:

Hampton, you can add several Order Items to an image. If you have the same for several photos, select them and create the Order Items for several at once. Please refer to the Help files as to the functionality the program supports.

    Shozam! Team Says:

Karen + Bill, the slideshow is meant to be viewed full screen. We can take a look into providing a version of the slideshow page (http://www.fortgaines.com/galleries/2006-CAF/1/slideshow.htm?1-true) to play within the gallery. Maybe even the option for this slidehsow page to become the gallery intro. We would need to get rid of the “Close X” link and probably hyperlink each large image appearing in the slideshow to the corresponding album page… I’ve added the concept to the wishlist.

Many thanks for the help of the gallery upgrade. I worked out what the problem was. The Web Gallery Pro Gallery allows gaps in the album numbering; so when I deleted album 11 of 15 it was OK about it.

Shozam! Does not like a break in the album numbers and hence it claims invalid project file.

I will re generate the last 4 albums in Shozam! Manually

    Many thanks for your help

A warning to any of you customizing the theme. If you add a new background file, make sure that you do not have any spaces in the name. I spent a lot of time trying to track down why I lost my Middle Space Background. It turned out that it was caused by changing from a single word file name to a name with a space - Cloud.jpg to Cloud Background.jpg. Once I changed the name to Cloud_Background.jpg. It worked again.

I have set up a temp directory with this program, enable the right click blocking to stop the downloading of the images. yet you can just simply drag the image right off the web site, placing it on your desktop, from there you can print the image and it appears to come out with no distortion. If this is possible then what is the purpose of even having the option to block the right click download process. There appears to be no safety feature here other then watermarking the images with fonts and copyright symbols.
    Any advice here.???

Seems to be problem day for me.
Another Step 5 issue - “Generate modified files only” does not seem to work. When the updated gallery is generated it goes through all the files and pictures again.

I am finding the same problem as Theodore Diebold had commented on Feb. 27/07. The copyright symbol is watermarking twice. You can see what I mean at http://www.danportphotography.ca Click on the Main Galleries button on the left and have a look at some of the pictures and you will see the double copyright symbol. I have completly erased the old galleries with version 2.0.1.36 twice and still no success in getting it to not do it. BTW: site is not published yet as new Shozam! galleries are still in beta. Please do not pass on site address.

    Shozam! Team Says:
    March 5th, 2007 at 5:38 pm

Dave, all HTML/JavaScript protections are flawed one way or another. Watermarking is the single foolproof option. It is also the type of protection used by all major stock image agencies. However, drag-and-drop from the page to the desktop should indeed be disabled too. Please add this to our wishlist group once we have the forms set up, in a week or so).

    Shozam! Team Says:
    March 5th, 2007 at 5:39 pm

Dan, the mini gallery checkbox is disabled because the feature is not yet implemented; it should be available soon.

    Shozam! Team Says:
    March 5th, 2007 at 7:16 pm

Dan + Ted, there are some known issues with watermarking that we are working to resolve.

Please ensure that the program can “see” the original images at the location from where you added them into the program. So the program has access to those “clean” images. If the program cannot access the original clean images, it cannot remove or replace a watermark that already has been placed.

Additionally, if you have created the galleries with an older than 2.0.1. Beta version (which I think is the case based on the two different sizes of the (C) symbol), there may be some legacy issues introduced.

Your gallery looks great; you may want to post a link to it to the gallery showcase forum, once we have it up and running in a week or so.

    Hi Razvan

    Thanks for the reply:

I simply followed the instructions re video and pulled flash files into the gallery. Nothing special.

Windows media player controls do not all work for some reason; mute pause start being the only active ones.

Yes it would be nice to have an opening picture of the video to give an idea of content.

Shozam import does work with Web Gallery Pro projects – I did not include original hi res pictures as this did not seem to work on the final Shozam Gallery. A page “error!” was displayed in the bottom left hand side of the browser screen.

I will post this response to the forum

    With kind regards

    Greg,

Interesting about the video; I was not aware it was supporting SWF yet. Did you do anything special or just added an SWF file in the wizard’s video tab and it plays this way by default, using the Windows Media Player?

The cropping does not look correct on the intro pages; it is likely because you started building with an older Bea version. New galleries started from scratch should display better the images on the intro animation page.

Latest version of Shozam! should import WGW 1.5 galleries without problems.

Shozam! will release with generic video icons but your request is solid. Please add it to the Forum Wish List once we have it up and running in a week or so.

Look under gallery and our students for the web Gallery Wizard sites which I want to transfer to Shozam as soon as the migration route is available from Web Gallery to Shozam.

If you can give me a migration tool I will upgrade to Shozam on all galleries.

I am wondering if there will be a thumbnail view of videos in Shozam?

Overall I am impressed with Shozam but have had several issues with it recently. First: I tried replacing the flash file (using the blackout theme which I modified to my own taste) with a flash file I created. When previewing my flash file in a browser everything seems to work fine, ie sound and images are in sync. When I build my gallery and view it then the sound and images are way out of sync. Anyone else had this problem or know a remedy? TIA. Second issue: When adding images to an already created gallery there are frequent issues with saving the new additions, “ie” Shozam either crashes or gives and error about not being able to create the gallery. Now if I try saving it to a new folder it works fine. Unfortunately I have so many folders now it’s getting a bit confusing as to which one I want to modify. Have posted what I’ve created on my website and have had very good comments about how Shozam functions on the web. Thanks for a great program. Have been using WGW1.5 previously and looking forward to the final release of Shozam.

  • BETA version 2.0.1.0

    HELP FILES

Improvements include more complete Video information, Map address and coordinates syntax, and other added Help information.

    RESOLVED ISSUES

    1. Future Beta versions should be able to read galleries and FTP presets created with this Beta version
    2. Promo Album has been removed. The software will no longer generate the promotional album
Themes: The temporary themes have been revamped to include cool new Intro animations (check out the “slide puzzle” animation). We are resolving the animation cropping issues, and new themes, coming in future Beta drops, will have differing color schemes
    3. Video: Windows Media video needs to be uploaded before it plays, Flash video cannot be imported directly. Importing video widgets works great. (Please see the Video Support tip posted earlier in the Blog, or the Help file, for more about video.)
    4. Video files can now be geo-tagged
    5. Drag-and-drop arrangement of thumbnails within the wizard (partial implementation)
    6. Direct input of image caption by clicking on the text under a thumbnail in the wizard
    7. Direct input of album description by clicking on the text to the right of an album in the wizard
Thumbnails now include media icons that appear when an image has an associated video and/or audio file
    8. Theme Editor text Help (for most properties) now appears at the bottom of the Step 4, Customize tab
Shopping cart buttons have been redesigned
    9. Slideshow timer has been added within the wizard
    10. Customize tab in Step 4 includes a diagram to show what regions of the gallery pages are affected by changes made in the theme editor
    11. FTP Presets tab in Step 6 has been completely redesigned to make it easier to use
    12. Watermark: now includes a text entry field for text watermarking; watermark gets applied to “original” size image; watermark displays at fixed size (no longer scales with the image)
    13. EXIF data has been grouped for easier reference

    KNOWN DESIGN ISSUES

Default thumbnail cropping issues related to how Intro animation images are cropped.

Tim, we will first implement all features to work as expected, fix bugs on WinXP and after that address Vista so there may be a few weeks until we have a fully Vista compatible version. We appreciate your patience.

Shozam! needs to limit the number of thumbnails it displays in QuickView at one time. Otherwise, there may be thubmnails all the way at thebottom of a long page, with the larger image displayed all the way at the top and this would not offer a good user experience. If thumbnails are cropped, 18 little one fit perfectly on the right side of the page and requires no scrolling. Additionally, this speeds up navigation since the page now needs to load just 18 thumbnails. If the page would display hundreds of thumbnails, it would really slow down navigation and impact negatively on hte user experience. Tradeoffs…

Theodore, glad you got the Google Map API Key issue resolved.

We are trying to have galleries created with the Beta version of the Business Edition be compatible with the final release of the Business Edition. However, this is not guaranteed. If, in the process of development, we need to change the gallery file structure, this will affect compatibility. Our goal is to have the release version be backward compatible with WGW 1.5 galleries. Backward compatibility with internediate Beta release generated galleries is desired but not guaranteed.

You mention that the option for image details is available only when initially creating a gallery. I am not sure what you mean by that. Are you talking about EXIF details? Please provide more details as to what steps you take and what are the unexpected results.

I was referring to the EXIF details when creating a new gallery Item 5 Gallery and the tab for image. When creating a gallery the option to select EXIF items is available. When modifying that same gallery that option was not available. Could not add or remove selection. I have reloaded Shozam! Fresh and started over this morning and it works???? I must have scrambled my installation and reloading seems to have fixed it. I appreciate the issues of structures and compatibility I just didn’t want to spend too much making use of the artistic juices if the work turned out to be obsolete. I kind of like my version of spotlight but can live with out. Just me being eager

I figured out how to have the album background and the rest of the screen different! Spending time on all the theme editing options I changed the middle section background. Just what I wanted!

  • Shozam! BETA tip

    Video Support in Shozam!

We are planning to include three ways to display video in Shozam! galleries.

    1) Import Windows Media files (video will not show when previewing gallery locally, and uploaded video may not play reliably for some viewers);

    2) Import Flash video files (requires conversion of your video to Flash video using a third party utility or Web service); and

    3) Import video widget (video needs to be uploaded to YouTube, or a similar services. These services convert your videos into the best Web-friendly format, and host the video for you. They provide you with a code snippet (video widget) such that your video will play on your Shozam! gallery page).

    In the current Beta version:

    - Windows Media video is not fully implemented
    - Flash video cannot be imported directly
    - Importing video widget works great, and is the recommended way to best display your videos for now

I realy like the the help files that are now included. Allowed me to add gps co-ordinents for picture locations. Would be nice to be able to add signature to copywrite symbol.

Ted, you should be able to add your signature by scanning/creating (in an image editing program) a GIF with your signature on a transparent background. Then use the “custom graphic” watermark option to import the signature image.

When I use the custom graphics option I loose the ability to sho the copyrite symbol and it doesn’t show the signature either. It does however create a strange rectangle on the picture. I have 2 screen captures but because I can’t include them here I will email them to Kelly Ford.

      Couple Questions:

      1. I am testing this software - looks cool - I was trying to import over 300 photos and got a error message. Do I post the error here?

      2. What about password protecting a photo album?

      3. Anyway to place no right click code on the entire album or pages?

      4. How about placement of a watermark on the photo? I.E. your signature

      Thanks

When in Slideshow view, the counter at the top stops at 099. For instance in a show with 347 images, the counter stops at 099/347. The images continue, just not the counter.

Robert, you can post here unexpected behaviors and please provide details such that the error can be replicated. We don’t collect yet error report text files generate by the program.

      2. I have updated the FAQs to address your question:
      http://www.help.shozam.com/default.aspx?page=FAQs2.aspx

3.& 4. I have updated the help files to better explain image protection options:

Ted, you can choose one (and only one) of the three watermark options(copyright symbol, text or custom graphic). The feature is not yet working right in all situations. I expect this to be fixed in the next drop, to occur mid next week.

I’d like to suggest a feature I think would really be outstanding. Instead of clicking on the thumbnails to display the image on the left, how about it showing when the cursor rolls over the thumbnail?

    9. Shozam! Team Says:
      February 13th, 2007 at 4:44 pm

Howard, we have evaluated this feature early on and was nixed. For this feature to work, the all the large images need to be per-loaded, so the user does not have to wait when hovering over the thumbnail. this makes it workable for very limited albums, of 6-9 images. Large galleries with many thumbnails shown at once, would need to pre-load too many large images for this feature to work. We have opted for a slightly different kind of pre-load; caching the “next” image. This allows for fast navigation from one image to another if viewing images in order and places less stress and bandwidth requirements on your server or Internet connection.

I have just been testing the cart function as this is key to me. One thing that I have noticed which seems to be the same on a lot of cart software, is issues with the way shipping charges are calculated. The way this works currently is that the 1st item is always charged at the “Shipping” cost and the 2nd of the same item at the “Add’l Shipping”. As with photo’s somone would generally purchase 1 each of 2 or 3 items the product currently charges the “Shipping” 3 times. As photo’s are very light it would be greate to have an option to charge “Shipping” once and then no matter which photo was chosen next only the “Add’l Shipping” be charged. I hope this makes sense to you, it’s just you need the initial larger value to cover 1 item say 9.99, but sending 2 or 3 photo’s together is never 29.97 (well here in the UK anyway)

      Kind Regards

      Nigel….

Nigel, the current thinking is to do without the shipping related optional fields in Shozam! and allow the user to control shipping charges from their main PayPal account setup.

PayPal used to provide shipping calculations embedded in the BuyNow button (the way Shozam! does it now). However, PayPal has moved away from this model and now provides more solid shipping pricing logic in the PayPal account control panel. The two methods are not identical in the way shipping charges are set but it seems like a good idea to support PayPal’s current “best practices”.

So the plan is to remove the shipping calculations from the buttons and let users set their shipping pricing logic in their PayPal account.

I suggest you do not use the optional shipping fields that are still in the current Beta version and see if you can get what you need by making changes to the shipping calculations in your PayPal account control panel.

First of all, I got all the way to the end but an error occured at Generate. I sent an email with the errorlog textfile.

Second thing is the sound effect at the start of the program. It’s okay, a bit hokey maybe, slightly irritating if you are constantly opening the program and should be an option to turn off. Sorry if this isn’t what you wanted to hear…umm, read.

I have some questions for you. When I loaded the build # 2.0.0.36708 I was prompted that I needed to update my Macromedia Flash player. When I tried to run Shozami prior to doing that none of the flash worked. So I updated my Flash player. Then the flash worked ok. Now about this time I was prompted to update my Adobe Reader as well. I’m not sure at this time which came first. I have since loaded the latest release of Shozami (2.0.0.25193) and everything is working fine with it but I have developed another problem.
A Macromedia module “ ~e5d141.tmp “ has been creating havoc with my system. I was wondering if any one else has reported any problem. When I run a Microsoft Direct X application (Flight Simulator 2004) that uses this module to prompt for a disk in a drive in order to run the module takes up to 95% of my cpu usage and hangs the system. Upon researching this on the web it seems that this may be apart of macromedia’s copy protection scheme. I’m just curious if there have been any other reports.
I have now loaded the latest release of 30628 and there are other issues that I’m trying to deal with. I have been unable to test the video section because of the limited space on my test site. With a very small video and small album plus the Promo album I exceed my size limits. What is the reasoning behind use a Flash player to display video rather than the media players included on most machines?
I have tried to enter gps coordinates in the fields supplied for lat/long with dismal results. This is a function that I would like to have functional. I entered the data in several formats: N46.18.078 W124.04.622, 46.18.078N 124.04.622W, 46/18.078N 124/04.622 among others. After entering a location in the first field as soon as I start to enter the second location the first field is cleared. I checked the help files which are starting to look very nice and found this section is still not completed.. I don’t know what the format Shozami is looking for and/or if this is even functional yet. I think it would be helpful to have an example of the syntax needed, displayed either prior to the data field or in the help file.
For me the startup sound is a distraction and I restarted Shosami several times trying to understand what I was missing to see if it was important. I suppose if it is in the finale build I will learn to ignore it.
I really like the visual over view as it helps me to move around from section to section quickly when trying to edit a gallery.

Luis, currently, the labels available to be changed are in the Step 4, Label tab. We have added your request to include the Slideshow labels and other Navigation labels to our feature request. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Ted, Shozam! does not require any Macromedia module. Flash Player browser plugin is needed when viewing any Flash animation on a Web page, such as the Shozam! gallery intro. I believe the Adobe Reader and ~e5d141.tmp are issues not related to Shozam!

      ENTERING MARKER COORDINATES DIRECTLY

If you know the latitude and longitude for the placemark you are editing, you can enter Latitude and Longitude values.

Latitude and Longitude can theoretically be expressed using 3 different notations:
      - DDD - Decimal Degrees
      - DMS - Degrees, Minutes, and Seconds
      - DMM - Degrees, Minutes with Decimal Seconds

Shozam! currently supports only DDD notation.

DDD notation, decimal precision is set in the *degree* coordinate. Use the minus sign (-) to indicate a westerly or southerly position. When you use this kind of notation, do not specify a letter symbol.

Additionally, you do not need to use a plus sign (+) to indicate northerly/easterly directions.

So, for example this is a valid entry:
      37.251907, -122.050840

The following is NOT a valid entry:
      37.251907N, -122.050840

We have updated the help files with the information above.

You can also set coordinates visually like this:
      - Add image to gallery
      - Go to Step2, map tab
      - Click View map button
      - Navigate around the map to find area of interest
      - Click on map to set a marker
      - Click Apply to set the coordinates
      - The coordinates are automatically entered in the wizard

I have been unable to complete generating files. Some of the files get generated but the program always hangs my system and I get an error. I am running Vista Ultimate. has anyone else been able to successfully run shozam with Windows Vista ?

Will the final version have the ability to modify galleries generated by Web Gallery Wizard 1.5 ?

Tim, we expect a future Beta version to address Vista compatibility issues.
