How do I download an existing gallery?

    Please help!

I'm an independent publisher and my home/office burned down. I lost everything. http://www.wwsb.com/Global/story.asp?S=8184241

I have a beautiful photo gallery on a site, but I don't have the gallery backup.

HOW can I download the gallery, save the pix, and modify the gallery? I do have all my passwords to the server.

    Thank you!

    Kent

Sorry to hear what happened. I think the easiest way is to get a FTP client. I use WSFTPro. Filezilla is a free one and I think you can get it at www.mozilla.org  or possibly www.filezilla.com. You'll just need to put in the server info (server address, login and password). Then it's pretty much just a matter of dragging/dropping files from one window to another. Generally the server would be in the right window and your computer in the left window. Anyway, filezilla is pretty easy to use. Hope this helps.

Read the article on your fire and you suffered a real tragedy.  Hope things turn out as best they can.

Adding to what Tom said, your server control panel should allow you to download files from the server.  Mine does.

I used to backup my files locally but it got to be a real hassle plus I still needed to figure out how to store the backup files so they were protected against fire or theft.  I switched to using Carbonite.com.  It can do it automaticlly throughout the day or you can set it to do it once a day which I do.  My backup is set for 3 AM each day so I wouldn't lose much if my computer crashes or some other tragedy strikes.

So far, it has worked well.

    Good Luck.

Thank you both very much for your fast replies and good wishes. The fire was a shock but we're working every day to get past it. I was using Mozy as my online back up and that saved 1.8G of data. If I had lost all that I'd be in a padded room now!

What really hurt (other than my book collection) is that I had more than 100G of original photos from research I'm doing in Cambodia. These were backed up in multiple places, but all on-site. The size of these files was just too big for online backup. Or so I thought...I'll be doing multiple backups, including online off site, in the future!

Also thanks for the FileZilla rec. Worked perfectly...and the price was right. (-:

As for the gallery. Did you hear me say "D'oh!" when I read your answer? Somehow I got it in my head that Shozam was crunching data on my local computer to output a gallery in a proprietary format - i.e. I forgot that it was constructing images in folders using a regular format. Whew. Downloaded and working great!

Next I'm going to try to make a video gallery as per Cowboy's advice on assigning unique thumbnails for each video.

Thank you both for your help!

You're quite welcome! I hope you can recover all your photos. Glad filezilla is working out for you.
