    Uploading (FTP) with Shozam

    Hello,

After generating my new webpage with Shozam beta 1.0.0.4 (In the meantime I'm using 1.0.0.5), I would like to upload my website to my hosting provider (GoDaddy.com). After uploading 300 MB (Which goes quite slow from The Netherlands), every JPG-image was unreadable (Rubish was displayed). Passive mode (PASV) was enabled. Does someone know what went wrong? Re-uploading the website with the standard build-in Windows XP - FTP client was a solution. Does someone know how I can fix that, so I can upload my website directly from Shozam? (I asume when I say "Generate modified files only", that Shozam will only upload the modified files?).

    Thanks in advance.

    Re: Uploading (FTP) with Shozam

    Hey Roger-

Did you use the GoDaddy FTP file process the first time around, or do you use another program (such as FrontPage or Dreamweaver) to connect to their servers?

I personally use FrontPage to manage my webs from GoDaddy, and I've never had a problem uploading the files onto their site (www.faynfay.com).  What I typically do is open the web in FrontPage, and import the entire folder to my site.  Then it's just a matter of mapping the .html file to my gallery (or imbed the Shozam .html into an iframe).

If you do use FrontPage primarily, and then try to use another FTP method (Dreamweaver, XP FTP, GoDaddy's built-in FTP, or any other FTP software) then the files may become corrupted since the FrontPage file extensions aren't implated in the process.

     Hope that helps somewhat.  Smile

    Re: Uploading (FTP) with Shozam

    Hi,

Actually I'm using only Shozam. After generation of the website, I would like to upload the site to GoDaddy. Preferably I would like to use the build in FTP-client from Shozam. Uploading is working fine with Shozam, but all images are rubish (when viewing the website after uploading). So something goed wrong during the upload process. When I use the WinXP FTP client, everything is working fine. So I don't use FrontPage or something else. Uploading with WinXP is no problem, but when I add for example 5 picture in album 10, I would like to upload only the new / modifies files. It would be great if Shozam could upload that and ONLY the modified files (automatically). When I would upload with WinXP, I have to search a lot of directories for new/modified files (Everytime uploading the entire website is no option, since it is 300+ MB). Do you know what I mean?

Thanks for your compliment about my kids. :-)

    Regards,

I get what you're saying.  Most of my stuff so far has been small galleries, and it's much easier for me just to replace the entire lot up on my sites... plus I'm constantly playing with the images going up so I seldom have only 1 or 2 albums that are untouched. LOL

    Roger,

I am not sure what you mean by "images are rubish". Please submit a Ticket to Help Desk if the gallery uploaded through Shozam does not display correctly. The single known issue is related to Frontpage Server Extensions, which sometimes takes the liberty of modifying the HTML code during the upload.

    http://helpdesk.shozam.com/

Note also that Shozam will upload all files again if there are changes to the way it generates HTML. When you first use a NEW version of Shozam to update a gallery created with an older version, the program will force the generation of all files to update your gallery to the latest "clean" HTML. As we are releasing new versions often, this means you may have to upload full often as well. As the program becomes increasingly stable and we do not make changes to the way we generate the gallery HTML, we may allow the program to not force the generation of all files on each new version. In the interim, the behavior explained above is needed to ensure there are no bugs introduced by having a gallery with various pages generated by different versions of the program.

Additionally, in some subsequent releases, we are planning to further optimize the workflow so the program is "smarter" about the specific subset of files which need to be generated. For example, if all you do is change a theme and leave all your other settings intact, to just generate and upload the few small files which are theme related. this way you will be able to change the look and feel of your gallery fast, easy and often as you please.

For the immediate future however, as we still may tweak some of the functionality and optimize general HTML code generated by Shozam, we will continue to require generating all pages with each new version released. It may take longer to upload all your files but you will be better assured that everything will work smoothly in your gallery. I hope you agree this is the right trade-off to make.
