Shozam on Vista - known issues are resolved - read for more...

There were a couple of recent issues related to activating and running Shozam on Vista. These have been resolved. Please download the latest fix (version 1.0.0.9) from http://www.shozam.com (the free download).

IMPORTANT: Vista users need to use the built-in Administrator account to have complete Windows rights to run the program. A user created Administrator account does not have sufficient Windows rights to run the program. By default, the Administrator account is present, but it's hidden and disabled on all clean installs of the operating system.

To access the true Administrator account in Windows Vista follow the procedure below:

Start by booting your computer to Vista in your computer administrator account. Open the Administrative Tools Control Panel. Double-click the Computer Management item to open it. Authorize UAC by clicking the Continue button. Double-click "Local Users and Groups" to open it. [ If you are still unable to access "local users and groups" on vista machine, then follow this:1)Go to the Start menu --> Click Run (or hold down the "Windows Flag" key and click the "R" key on your keyboard). 2)Paste "lusrmgr.msc" in the 'Run' window and click OK.]

Click the Users folder. On the right side of Computer Management, you should see icons for all of the user accounts created on your computer. The ones that have small red circles with an "X" through them are disabled.

Click to select the Administrator icon, and then right-click it to open its context menu and choose Properties. Remove the check mark from the "Account Is Disabled" box and click OK. You'll need to restart your computer to access Administrator.

You can also right-click on Shozam shortcut and select "Run as Administrator" in the context menu (if you are a Standard or Power user in Vista).

    Levi,

Vista issues were fixed for all but a few users. We are working hard to fix all remaining issues. However, we require your patience and cooperation with the Help Desk team in identifying the specific cause of the issue you are encountering.

Please note that the Development Team is not monitoring the Forums. Consequently, do not post further on this topic here; all technical support issues, such as yours, should be funneled through Help Desk. I am monitoring the Development Team to ensure the remaining issues are resolved swiftly and effectively.

I appreciate your understanding and your patience.

Levi, one more thing. Please make sure you are using the built-in Administrator account under Windows Vista. The instructions on how to do this are in the updated post at the top of this topic thread:

    http://community.shozam.com/forums/t/453.aspx

Please confirm that you have done this.

Finally, this fixed the Vista Start problem. It look like it's just during the install that need the run as administrator?

I have the same problem, but I have only Windows XP and only one PC. After purchase Business-Edition I had only Lite version. It is crazy ! I have paid for nothing ? After a week the problem was not solved at all.

Bill, I believe you need to always run Shozam with Admin privileges.

I have tried to to find the area where I enable the built in Administrator account with the instructions you give us on this communication but I am unable to find the area.  Now do I still need to us the built in Admin account if I have a user account under my name and it is set as administrator?

Following is what see when I follow your instructions to enable the admin user account:

I get to the computer management item but I don't see local users and groups area.  Instead I see System tools, storage and service and applications.  Am I in the right place?

I have responded to your query that you submitted to helpdesk@shozam.com under shozam support. As you can run LITE edition on your Vista, my assumption is that you can activate your purchased edition once we provide you with the manual activation details. For this, I have already requested the hardware fingerprint of your machine.

I think you can try the workaround below that will directly let you access "local users and groups" on vista machine.
    • Go to the Start menu --> Click Run (or hold down the "Windows Flag" key and click the "R" key on your keyboard)
    • Paste "lusrmgr.msc" in the 'Run' window and click OK.

Once you reach "local users and groups", you can continue to follow the steps mentioned earlier to you to get in to true Administrator account.

Yes. You are on the right place. The problem is that, that feature is only available for Business and ULTIMATE versions of Vista. I use Home Premium and ain't available for it.

Re: Shozam on Vista - known issues are resolved - read for more...

I have versión  1.0.0.13 and the problem persists. Yep, contacted to the support team, got several replays but nothing has solved the problem. The complexity of how are you trying to protect the software against piracy, is not very friendly. What will happen if any of us decides to change the PC? Or format or mount a new hard drive? Or add more RAM or any upgrade device? Are we going to need to go to all these problems again?  I thought that the problem was concerning only Windows Vista users, but as I have read so far, XP is having problems as well. So, the program itself is not that cheap and ain't easy to have it working. The program is easy to use and learn, hard for pirates to re-distribute, hard for the user to have it working... I for the price we are paying I believe the program should be running trouble free. What about a change in Shozam anti-copy-pirate policies? Was the descount price just a way to catch customers even tough the program is not running as it should?

It's good to know we have a support center and that they are working to solve the problem but is not enough when we are working under pressure and we need to have things done on time.

Aramirezl, I believe your issue is resolved at his point; the special character that was part of your registered name was at the root of the issue.
