    Short Caption formatting

    How do I change the font and size of the Short Caption? I am using the CrossFade theme and I cant see where you can control the HTML for the important Large view. For example on this page you almost can't see the name of this image.

     goofy 166,

    Step 4 - Customize - Global Defaults Body Text - Font & Font Size

    The largest choice they give is 12px but you can edit the size.  14px is probably the highest you want to go to avoid the gallery getting skewed from text size because like it says, it is global.

    Save the theme under another name if you want to leave the original intact.

    Body text will change ALL the text on the page, I just want to change the size of the Short Caption. From what I can tell its another limitation that can't be done. Seems odd to now allow the title which has its own fields in the editor to have to take the style of the entire page. Then its not really a heading at all.

     That's the only way I know how to do it.  Hasn't been a limitation to me.  I just change the font color, make it bold or not and use the size they give.  People I've done galleries for have never complained about not seeing the text nor complained about the Global Body Text size.

    Dunno what to tell ya but it works fine for me and I haven't seen anyone else complaining about it.

    I dont think its very useful to allow someone to control "body" text on a page if yoiu dont also let them control the various headings in that text. The page I am presenting represents a certain kind of bird. The name of the bird is important as you look at it and my poor customer will be very challenged to see the name since its coming from the bird's Short Caption which allows no HTML. I would prefer to be able to directly control the generated HTML.

    Re: Short Caption formatting

    You can change many things that are not incorporated in the customized field in the program.

    Go the "My Shozam Themes" Folder and find the "Theme" you want to edit and open that folder.

    Then open a file named theme. There are two. Open the 'cascading style sheet document'.

    To edit the size of the "short caption field", scroll to the bottom. The next to last  item is "Table 1". It's font-size is set for 10px. That only changes the size of the font for the short caption in the Slideshow. I have mine changed to 20 and it is a perfect size for me. This change will reflect in every gallery you create using that theme.

    If you want to make changes to an individual gallery, then find that folder in the "My Shozam Galleries".

    Open your selected gallery folder, then there is a "theme" folder, and the file to edit is in that folder. It's the same cascading style sheet document file.

    You can also change other font sizes and colors, banner color and file, etc. You do need to know html codes for colors. I use this http://www.ficml.org/jemimap/style/color/wheel.html

    So you can change some things without having to even open the Shozam program. I have changed the music file. That is in the audio folder within the "1" folder. On a couple of occasions, I have forgotten to check the "loop" for the music and I have changed that by opening the slideshow html file with notepad and made the change there. You can correct spelling errors in that slideshow file, you can take out the text, or add the text. Very timesaving!

    I should mention that if you are unfamiliar with editing in this manner,  you should copy the original file that you are editing to another location and save it so you can always replace it if you make an error.

    Re: Short Caption formatting

    I thought of something else. If you are using one of Shozam's themes without any customization, then that folder will not be in "My Shozam Themes". So you would need to make at least one change to be able to rename and save the theme to make the changes in the files.

    Really nice use of audio captions with image.  I would not have thought of it used like that.

    Paula

    Thanks for the information here. I understand css and see how things work. I created my own theme name and modified the css so the selector you refer to looks like this (I wondered why it had such a non descript name):

    #Table1
    {
     font-size: 20px;
    }

    I saved it and then I ran Shozam. did not generate a new gallery, and just went to step 4 Theme to prev the gallery.

    I saw no change in my Short Caption size. I figured that since its a style sheet it would get read into the existing pages and generate the correct size font.

     I hope I dont have to recompile everything as that takes over an 1 hour now.

    Re: Short Caption formatting

    Goofy166,

    Paula mentioned #Table 1 is for Slideshow captions.

    For manual override in the CSS, here is the process I recommend:

    • Go to your gallery and view a page where you want to change something in, like the size of the caption.
    • Copy some part that will help you identify where you can find it in the Source; in this case copy the caption text
    • Do a View Source to see the underlying HTML; it will likely open in Notepad
    • Ctrl+F to find and paste the caption text --> The specific HTML will be hilighted
    • Look for the closest "class". If you did this on the Large Image Page, that would be: class="lgCaption" (it may be different on other page types, like the QuickView)
    • Go to the CSS file and find that specific class
    • Make changes; in this case add font size property and value

    Another workaround is to create a custom title for your image by entering it in the HTML tab as HTML code, with inline style parameters (or applying annother class that is already available in the style sheet). This will allow you to even apply a particular "heading" (like H1) to further help with the SEO for the page.
