    Adding galleries another way

    Hi,

    Thought I'd pass this on.

I created my first, multiple gallery with 5 galleries. It took so long to generate because there were over 100 images. So I tried something else. I started over and created the main gallery as I wanted it and then added 4 dummies. For each dummy gallery, I added just one image, and proceeded as usual with all other steps. When I generated the gallery, it took no time whatsoever.

I then went to the first that I created that had over 150 images, opened the folder and copied folders 1, 2, 3, 4 (the program numbers from bottom to top) and replaced same folders in the trial. It worked perfectly!

So, you can create each gallery separately and them add them to the gallery with the dummies without the long processing time and chance of your system freezing up. There is another thing that would need to be done. When you create only one gallery, the folder that needs to be copied will always be named - 1. So you would have to renumber it to match the correct position in your multi-gallery.

This also helps me to be able to add a gallery that has already been created, so it doesn't have to be done all over again.

    Paula,

Just want to make sure I understand your post correctly. Which scenario are you addresssing:

#1 Is this to create a new hierarchy level and have a gallery of galleries?

#2 Or is it to break down the process of generating one very large gallery and generate one album at a time?

I assume you are addressing scenario #2. (But a similar workflow can be used to address scenario #1 that some users have been asking about). Either way, a great workflow tip - thanks!

    Razvan,

I guess this method would address both.

I am working on a tour for a developer. The main tour (gallery) will be the community, then one each for two models, one for homes under construction, one for homes that are completed, and one for amenities.

I started on this and generated it. I had to make some changes and when I generated the second time, the program froze and I lost the changes, even though I checked to generate modified files only. There were about 150 images and there will probably be more before I'm done. And also, as they usually do, the client will make changes, corrections, additions and cuts, which means I would be re-generating this gallery of galleries quite a few times before it's done. I thought I would probably would run out of patience with the developer and my system if I lost my work often.

So, I came up with the idea of creating the "dummy" galleries (within the main gallery) with only one image (which needs to be the first image you will use in the real gallery). This way, I can create a "standalone" gallery for each one, then add them to the main gallery in the method I described. I can make corrections or changes for each gallery individually and not fear losing the changes.

    Re: Adding galleries another way

    Morning Paula,

This is indeed an interesting concept. While I'm not using a Gallery of Galleries I do have multiple galleries behind different links on my home page. How about using this method to update a single folder That all ready exist on your website. Rather than updating the whole galley which as you noted can take some time just uploading one folder would be much faster. What do you think?

    Ted,

If you're referring to uploading with your FTP program when you make a change, yes I do that. I just upload the file or folder that has been changed. For example, frequently I change, add or delete captions on the slideshow. After the change in notepad, I just upload that single slideshow html file. Or if I want to change the music, I just upload the new music file in the audio folder. Of course the new music file has to be renamed, but only uploading the edited file or folder saves sooooo much time.
