    Question about links in the banner section

    I need to put a link in the banner section and in the footer that will open a new browser window (or browser tab) so that it doesn't take a visitor away from my website. Is this possible? I've tried using the html code after the link to open a blank page but now the link isn't clickable. Any help on this would really be nice...LOL. Here I go pulling my hair out again.

    Thanks,

    Tom

    Re: Question about links in the banner section

     Tom,

    Below is the code I use all the time for opening a link in a new window.

    target="_blank" title="Whatever You Want Someone to See" href="http://www.WhatEverLink.com">

    I don't think it matters if target="_blank" is before or after your href call.  What does matter is that you have the underscore ( _ ) before blank.

    Never tried it a gallery because I have no need to but I don't see why it wouldn't work once you modify the code.

    I think you have to go right to the HTML on your pages rather then trying to insert it using Shozam's functions.  That may be your problem if the link is not functioning.

    Re: Question about links in the banner section

     I think the problem is when I'm putting it into the two boxes for links in the banner Shozam is writing the code and I get really bizarre errors leading to a path that really shouldn't be there. Seems to be a conflict with Shozam and Yahoo's "sitebuilder". So what I've done for a work around for now is create a menu above the gallery using the HTML tab and it seems to work just fine. I could get the links tab to work but it wouldn't open a new window so it took me away from my site in the same window. Anyway for now the menu above the gallery will work, it just doesn't appear consistent with the rest of my site since I'm loading the galleries without an iframe now.

    Thanks!

    Re: Question about links in the banner section

     Tom,

    You can't use the Shozam fields.

    Are you good working with tables in HTML?

    If you are, use the top HTML tab to create a table identical in size to the banner image.  Use the banner image as a background in the table.

    Overlay your links in the table set to open in new window.  Insert the code and turn off the banner in your gallery and it should work.

    The footer is a bit more of a challenge so just put the links below it.

     I think this is what you want to do:

    Copy the HTML and modify it.

    Re: Question about links in the banner section

     Tom,

    Your idea is really great for anyone that wants to move beyond the basics of Shozam and has at least the Business edition.  I have used the HTML tabs before but never thought about what you proposed.  It can really save space at the top of a gallery plus provide some great options for sending visitors to sites outside of the gallery or keeping them on site.

    I played with it and put it in my Marine Corps theme:

    USMC Gallery

    It now has a link to the USMC site in the custom banner plus below the footer.

    Thanks for the idea.

    Re: Question about links in the banner section

     Cowboy,

    Thanks for the help. Just one question though. Where did you enter the code? Did you actually put it in under the link tab in step 5? It looks like you've been paying some visits to the new part of my website? (google analytics)

    Re: Question about links in the banner section

     Tom,

    I used the HTML tab in Step 5.  Everything was inserted there including the links.  The Banner was hid under the Customize tab.  The code essentially takes care of the Banner image as a background for the table and any links or text you want there.

    Below is the code from the HTML tab for placement above the page that I used in the USMC gallery.  Figure I would just slap in here rather then you trying to hunt it down in the page source code.

    Cowboy

    ======================

    You can use it to play with.  Just substitute your banner image location for mine where you see background= .  Change the height= to your banner image height.  Then, from <a to </a>, put your info in to fit it where you want.

    You should then just be able to copy and paste it into your gallery.

    ===============================================

    <div align="center">
        <table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="771" style="text-decoration: none; font-family: Verdana; font-size: 10px" id="table1" background="http://www.ohiowebs.net/images/usmc_table.jpg" height="68">
            <tr>
                <td>
    <br>
    <br>
    <br>
    <br>
                <p align="right">
                <a style="text-decoration: none; font-family: Verdana; font-size: 11pxt; color: #000000; font-weight: 700" title="Visit USMC Web Site" target="_balnk" href="http://www.marines.mil/Pages/Default.aspx">
                Visit USMC Web Site</a><b> </b>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp
                </td>
            </tr>
        </table>
    </div>

    Re: Question about links in the banner section

     Cowboy,

    Thanks, I will tinker around with this and see how it works. It's probably a better way to do what I need than the code I'm using now.
